This novel is set in the Peruvian Andes during the violence of the 80s. Strong, lyrical, and introspective, I fell in love with the story when I read it. It is fiction, but Julián Pérez grew up in the middle of all the social conflicts and killings of that time, and deeply personal, he writes about it first hand. There are two parallel stories: One of the narrator remembering his youth and the events that happened then; another in the present about leaving home for the city and coming back to find himself again. Pérez uses Quechua, integrates stories and myths from the region, and writes with all the heart of someone from the Andes. The story is deep, trying to understand the complexities of those times.
